After making it to the finals of the Beijing Women’s Tennis Tournament, the duo continued their momentum, dominating their first-round match as the sixth-seeded pair. They overcame the Italian-French team of Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Diane Parry in straight sets, with a score of 6-4, 7-2, setting their sights on a quarterfinal clash against the Czech duo of Marie Bouzkova and Barbora Krejcikova.
Reflecting on the match, Hsieh noted that despite falling behind in the first set, they managed to rally back from a 1-4 deficit by breaking their opponents’ serve two times in crucial moments. In the second set, both teams exchanged breaks early on, leading to a tense tiebreak where the Taiwanese-Russian combination excelled, finishing the match with a convincing 7-2 victory in the tiebreaker.
As the Wuhan Women’s Tennis Open makes its return after five years, it features a substantial prize pool of $3.22 million, matching the high stakes of the previous WTA 1000 event in Beijing. Hsieh expressed her enthusiasm about competing in such a prestigious tournament and the opportunity to advance further with Kudermetova as they prepare for their next challenge on the court.
