On October 25, a seminar commemorating the 90th anniversary of the founding of “World Knowledge” and its publishing house took place at the Blue Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing. Around 200 attendees from various sectors, including representatives from the Publicity Department, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Finance, publishing houses, industry associations, think tanks from universities, and partner organizations, gathered for the event.
Sun Weidong, a member of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Party Committee and Deputy Minister, conveyed congratulations from Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on the occasion of the magazine’s founding and anniversary celebration. Wang Yi emphasized that for a long time, “World Knowledge” has adhered to the Party’s leadership and has played a vital role in promoting the Party’s foreign policies and fostering friendly exchanges between China and the world. In light of new circumstances, he encouraged the magazine to thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, particularly his diplomatic ideas. He urged the publication to uphold its glorious traditions, carry forward the red gene, remain mindful of its original mission, maintain a correct direction, continuously innovate, and enhance its international communication efforts to contribute greatly to the understanding between China and the world.
In his remarks, Sun Weidong stated that “World Knowledge” should focus on serving Chinese diplomacy, excel in professional publishing, and strive to create a favorable external environment for advancing Chinese-style modernization. He emphasized the need for reform and innovation, improving market competitiveness, enhancing management efficiency, and implementing deep reforms in state-owned enterprises.
Wang Shangzhi, president of the Chinese Journalists Association, noted that “World Knowledge” holds a unique position among national journals, significantly contributing to the overall work of the Party and the country, supporting Chinese diplomacy, and promoting research and practice on international issues, especially in explaining Xi Jinping’s diplomatic philosophy. He expressed hope that the magazine would deepen its understanding and promotion of the spirit from the 20th National Congress, strengthen thematic publicity, and foster integrative development.
Lu Caihong, vice president of the Chinese Publishing Association, highlighted the unique advantages and functions of “World Knowledge” in supporting foreign policy decisions, aiding national development, and enhancing international studies. He encouraged the magazine to continue strengthening thematic promotion, improve academic publishing, encourage internationalization, and build capacity in publication talent and communication.
Cui Chun, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Publishing House, briefly reviewed the development and achievements of “World Knowledge,” affirming the commitment to honoring the traditions of its predecessors, carrying forward the “World Knowledge spirit,” and advancing reform and innovation. He emphasized the mission to contribute to the development of socialist advanced culture, promote the construction of a global community with a shared future, and achieve new successes in Chinese-style modernization.
Leaders present also spoke during the seminar and awarded prizes to the participating students and faculty from six universities, including Renmin University of China, who competed in the “Diplomatic Knowledge Competition” finals.
